A simple place to start
Thank Him for something specific.
Be honest about what is wrong, including your own sin.
Ask for what you need, plainly.
Ask Him to show you His will, and mean it.
When you have no words
Say exactly that. Tell Him you do not know how to pray and that you want to learn. Honesty is worth more to God than a polished sentence.
Does He answer?
His promise is that He hears and He answers. Sometimes the answer is not the one you wanted, or it does not arrive on your timetable. Prayer is not a way of getting God to do what you want, it is how you stay in contact with the One who knows what you need.
