In short
Grace is God’s gift that you could never earn. You are not saved because you are good enough, but because Jesus paid for your sin in your place.
Grace is God giving you what you could never earn and never deserve. It is the reason the gospel is good news rather than a list of requirements.
Why it cannot be earned
If salvation depended on being good enough, no one would ever know when they had done enough. God removed that uncertainty by putting the cost on Jesus instead. He paid it in full, in your place.
Grace is not permission
Grace does not mean sin stops mattering. It means sin has been paid for at enormous cost. Someone who understands that does not treat it lightly, they live differently out of gratitude.
How you receive it
You receive grace the way you receive any gift, by taking it. Turn from your sin, ask Jesus for forgiveness, and give Him your life. That is all that stands between you and it.
